This being the Last IHRA 29th Annual Skull Gear World Nationals at Bill Baders famed Norwalk Raceway Park it is kinda of ironic that the race would last an extra day in all the IHRA Classes. in Nitro Funny Car Gary Densham and Scott kallita
would not be able to stay an extra day due to both having prior commitments so this race will goes down in the history books as no funny car winner.Top Fuel would be another story as both Hillary Will in the Ken Black, Summit Kalitta dragster up against Doug Foley in the Foley and Lewis Skull Accelerator on Monday Morning Hillary would take down the whole Foley & Lewis team, in the first round she took out rick cooper in the first round in the second round she took out former IHRA Top Fuel Champion Bruce Litton but in the final she took out doug Foley who left on Hillary, but she over took him when Doug shut off at 1/2 track.

Tony Gillig in a Ford Mustang Vs Pete Berner in his Pontiac GTO so it would be a classic shoot out.Pete would take the win light with a 6.44 E.T. 214.1 MPH over Tony's 6.47 E.T. at 212.7 Mph .Berner combined great driving with deadly consistent e.t. s to Handle the Points leader. The only class to have a final round on Sunday was TAFC Tim Stevens who built this Alky funny car in his on shop in Mich. would get his first ever Iron Man Tim who would win today on his birthday had all kinds of trouble even getting out to the track as his truck broke down on the way to Norwalk this being the last IHRA National event Tim got to the track by hook his truck would still be in Norwalk getting fixed Sunday night and would not be ready until some time Monday Tim would take out three time IHRA

When NHRA takes over the sanction of the track next year! Will the ICE CREAM still be $1.00 dollar for 1 lb many fans will miss the hospitality of the IHRA brand of racing. one has to wonder if 1 lb of ice cream for a buck, friendly greetings and good byes at the entrance gates, and down home hard core racing our things of the past! |
